Post Body

Hello bapcsalesaustralia! First post here.

Just moved to Australia last year from the US and unfortunately, I had to leave my PC behind (not the biggest of deals, it's a PII 1055t with a HD5770 so a bit outdated). In the coming months, I'll finally have the opportunity to build a new PC. It's been a while since I've put together a PC, so I'd like some thoughts on my build!

Reasoning on why I picked what I picked -

CPU: I don't think much explanation is needed on the 3600. From what I've read and seen, it's the ultimate low/mid-range CPU.

MoBo: It's one of the cheaper AM4 motherboards with onboard WiFi. The other route I was thinking was a Gigabyte 550m DS3H and a PCIE WiFi adapter. I don't plan on overclocking so I don't need anything crazy as far as motherboards go.

Storage: I wanted plenty of storage for games and apps and a cheap/decent 1TB HDD for everything else. I've seen lots of recommendations for the MX500 and I had the same WD Blue EZEX drive in my last rig and it was a helluva budget drive.

GPU: It was between this and a GTX 1660 Super. I'd save about $50 going for the GTX 1660 super, but I think the extra bit of performance is worth it to me. Plus, the monitor I chose does have FreeSync. I think an EVGA THICC II is about $10 more, so I could go with that instead since it seems to have a better cooler. I could definitely use some advice in this area!

Case: Looks like a pretty nice budget mATX case. Has a PSU shroud and is pretty sleek looking.

PSU: Another area I could use some advice in. I've read that it's a pretty decent PSU and I love the flat cables for cable management. However, my main concern is efficiency. Will I have to go up to the 550w version?

Monitor: I wanted at least 75hz and an IPS 24" monitor on the cheap. I couldn't find too much information on this monitor, but it was the cheapest that fit my criteria and I've had good luck with ASUS monitors in the past.

Other thoughts: I really wanted a good set of speakers with a sub because I listen to a lot of music and this set seems to have a lot of really good reviews. I already have a mouse that I use with my laptop and I'm gonna have my Gigabyte K7 keyboard sent from the US so I didn't include either of those. I also have a couple 240GB SATA SSDs that I plan to have sent along with my keyboard. I didn't include Windows 10 in this build because I know I can get it fairly cheap (if I can't handle having an inactive copy of W10). I also chose not to get a CPU cooler because, again, not gonna be overclocking and it'll save me a few bucks.

Ultimately, my goal for this PC is gonna be gaming (wide variety of games) along with a bit of light video editting, digital drawing and modding games like Fallout (using Creation Kit). I do plan on upgrading later on to an even better computer so I'm not too concerned with future proofing. This is just a stepping stone so I'm not without a decent PC for another year.

Any advice is much appreciated!
