Hello r/bangladesh!
Queer Black hijabi here in the US. I grew up in a very Christian household and was raised by a woman who hails from the rural Southern US (I grew up in the New England area of the US). I notice so many similarities between our cultures, especially when it comes to 'family' politics; how conservative and backwards our relatives can be, the misogyny of our older female relatives, to how the awful sons are treated like kings and babied, and the daughters are treated like absolute garbage. How all the horrific events happening within being swept under the rug.
This all led to no-contact with pretty much all the older relatives for me, especially my mother. Although I still live with her, I have not spoken to her in about a week. She has done and said so many terrible things and allows her no-good older son to basically say and do whatever he wants to me, which has been happening all my life. I take meds, see a psychiatrist, on the hunt for a new therapist, and more, btw.
I wonder, to all the ppl in this subreddit, how relatable this was to you? What has been your experience?
Stay safe and cool out there, L
