Query on renewing my driving licence!

My driving licence will expire in 2022. I need to renew it. However, I have the below queries and hoping the community here can guide me.

1) The licence was issued in Udupi RTO. Do I need to go to the same RTO for a renewal? Or can I do it in Bangalore? I no longer stay in Udupi. So I am not sure what needs to be done

2) The driving licence I have is in the old book format. Yeah, I know its really old. How can I change it to the newer card format?

3) Should the licence be renewed before the expiry date similar to passport renewal to avoid any additional headaches?

4) Finally, how to renew the driving licence?
