Bangalore has earned the title of India’s Silicon Valley, and with that has come rapid growth, job opportunities, and a booming economy. But I can’t help but wonder—has this IT boom actually done more harm than good for the people who’ve lived here their whole lives?
Don’t get me wrong, the tech industry has brought a lot of benefits, but at what cost? The city’s infrastructure is crumbling under the pressure of constant construction and an ever-increasing population. Traffic is unbearable, real estate prices are skyrocketing, and it feels like Bangalore is becoming less livable by the day.
What about the locals who aren’t part of the IT world? Many are being priced out of their own neighborhoods, forced to move further away from the city center. The unique culture and charm that once defined Bangalore seem to be fading away, replaced by a generic corporate atmosphere.
I know this might be a divisive opinion, but I feel like the city’s soul is being sacrificed in the name of progress. And I’m curious—do other locals feel the same way? Is the IT boom really worth the loss of what made Bangalore special, or am I just being resistant to change?
Would love to hear different perspectives on this, especially from those who’ve seen the city evolve over the years.
