Bengaluru residents will face a 24-hour water supply disruption from 6 am on February 27 till 6 am on February 28 due to some maintenance work to be carried out by the water supply department.According to an Indian Express report, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) announced the shutdown to conduct essential maintenance work and install Unaccounted For Water (UFW) bulk flow meters.

Bengaluru is facing an acute water shortage ahead of summer due to which several areas are facing disruption in water supply leading to high rises in the price of private tankers. Around 60 per cent of Bengaluru's population depends on tanker water.

Bengaluru is going through an acute water shortage this year, months before peak summer that can force the residents to pay almost double the usual price for water tanks, that most people depend on for their daily needs.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar was drawn into a debate on the rising rates of water supplied by private tankers in Bengaluru after opposition BJP MLAs raised the issue in the state assembly.

Shivakumar said that he would consider suggestions by BJP MLAs to fix a rate for water tankers to prevent exploitation of consumers and government takeover of tankers and borewells during summer.

During the debate, he also revealed that water from the Cauvery Fifth stage scheme will be supplied by April or May to the 110 villages newly added to Bengaluru.
