Hey all, just thought I'd share my excitement!
Been playing drums since age 8, now 42. Had to step away for 10 years (from age 20-30) due to service in the Marines and resultant Traumatic Brain Injuries from 2 tours in Iraq that seriously affected my ability to coordinate fine motor skills. For the past 2 years I've auditioned for numerous cover bands, gotten hired a few times, mostly leaving of my own accord after being sold a bill of goods that never came through, one I flat out walked out of rehearsal due to issues with the singer.
For the past 15 months I've been focused on starting and refining my own country cover band, where I'm the BL and Drummer. It's going excellent, and we're turning down more gigs than I could have ever imagined (due to schedule conflicts). Also joined my Uncles cover band 2 months ago, and have gigged with them a few times already.
Well, my new excitement comes from this:
One of the better country acts in my area reached out to me last week asking me to sub for a private party tomorrow night! Cold, no rehearsal, no worries. They said they've been following our Facebook page and like my style and ability to groove, and are sure it is fine to play their set.
The money will be great, but I'm more excited to be considered for such a crucial role at a very prominent gig by an even more prominent cover band.
Keep working at your craft guys and gals! People do notice, and great things can come from this phenomenal community we call music! I'll post a follow-up after the gig is done!
