Just wanting to see if anyone knows about or would be interested in a henchmen/followers mod. If you don't already know, in AD&D 2E, you could acquire henchmen and followers depending on your class. A Fighter, for example, would automatically acquire some followers once they claimed a stronghold. In both BG games, you can defeat two strongholds, the Gnoll Stronghold in BGEE, and De’Arnise Keep in BG2EE. Of course you can't gain anything from the first game, and the second game doesn't offer much with the stronghold except gold, IIRC.
In my mind, one could do this type of mod without EEex by limiting a player to having ONE henchman/follower at a time, with the remaining at your stronghold. This could work like a familiar does (though I don't know how one would implement it).
Some basic ideas that come to mind that wouldn't break the game TOO much:
- a henchman merchant with basic supplies that every so often (e.g. 10 in-game days) will acquire a new item for you
- a henchman [item creator] that will create [depending on your level supplies] (think like bowyer, hidesman, or alchemist, but NOT like Cromwell)
- a henchman pack mule that you pay a [large fee] per [time] to hold a small amount of items for your party
- a low-level thief that is dedicated to finding traps for a [large fee] per [time]
- a retired/deserter Flaming Fist merc that provides their combat services (basically cannon fodder)
- an apprentice wizard (like Melicamp) that follows you around and annoys you for help with their magic while offering a few extra basic spells to the party
- (at much higher levels) an entire adventuring party, maybe summoned like the Wand of Monster Summoning, just with young adventurers—think those inexperienced adventurers you met in Durlag's Tower or in the Underdark
