In a conversation yesterday, someone pegged me as being Bahai, and then went on to explain how the Bahai faith "is an offshoot from the religion I grew up in. As are the 7th Day Adventists and the Jehovah's Witnesses." After quite a long conversation, the religion is: Jewish Christian. Apparently there are records of The Bab (Siyyid `Alà Muḥammad ShÃrázÃ) being strongly connected to that religion in the 1830s, even being an elderman of the religion before being essentially excommunicated for radical teachings.
I have no compelling reason to either believe or refute. Nothing about my friend's claim is discordant with facts that I do know about the Bab. At the same time, that's a pretty strong connection between the Baha'i Faith and a veritable multitude of other religions, and I am keenly interested to know if the connection is real.
