So I will preface this with a backstory on my roommate. We used to work together about 4 years ago and stayed in touch over the years. My lease was up last year and I was looking to move closer to work ( I worked in SF at the time) and he was attending college just outside of Oakland. I mentioned to him previously that for me where I live is a place to chill for me and I didn't want this to be a "college apartment". As I am sure you can imagine this is exactly what this ended up becoming. He constantly has his bong in the living room and he's incredibly needy. I tried placing boundaries with him ( You can't enter my room without permission, please don't play videos loud af at 2 am in the morning on a weekday, please don't touch my stuff without asking, I would appreciate a heads up when company is coming over, etc) but he frankly doesn't respond well to any of my boundaries. I recently received a really cool living arrangement where I would work 10 hours a week for a property management company and in exchange, I am going to get my own full size 1bdr 1bath apartment in a really nice part of a large metro city for substantially below market rent. Conveniently I would be moving in next month when my lease On top of that ill be living much closer to where I'll be working ( should drop commute from a 55-minute commute to just shy of a 15-minute commute). The main issue is that he's incredibly needy and immature and I don't want my remaining month with him to be extremely awkward. I appreciate all your advice
TLDR my roommate sucks I found an apartment for cheaper than the cost of room and I want to tell him I am moving out.
