Jay was nice enough to chat with a few of us after a festival show a whike ago and I remember one of the things he said that differentiated Graffin from other lyricists was that others might say, "Today I saw black" while GG would say, "Today I saw black [and this is how it made me feel]." I enjoyed hearing his perspective.
Oh yeah, and he also mildly lamented the lengthening of the older songs (haha, 13 years ago!), like "Part III" and such, especially where it's all downstrokes. Someone (me?) asked him why he didn't just do alternate picking but I can't remember what he said!
