Right and left are about social stratification not party affiliation. Left is generally against it, right thinks it is acceptable/unavoidable/natural/good etc. Just because the republican party does something doesn't mean it's right wing. Just b/c democrats do something doesn't mean it's left wing.
Abolition was against a certain kind of social stratification (slavery) so it was left wing, even if the Republicans were the ones for it. These people strike me as the type to deny the southern strategy.
Also I'm not sure why they think the American Revolution was right wing, even based off their logic. Do they think the patriots were a "right" wing group? I'm not familiar with the history but I would guess it was something "left" since they were opposed to lack of representation which seems like an example of stratification?
edit: it might be because they think patriotism = right wing
