Background

2023/2024 saw the launch of TTY's signature line, with equipment and apparel released by Victor. The star of the line-up is, of course, Thruster TTY. This 4u control-attack racket represents Victor's most expensive MiT Thruster at the time of release, and, apart from Metallic layer and WES, is loaded with Victor's latest tech. While not technically in the same series, the Thruster TTY is a direct evolution of the TKFC with noticeable upgrades in the shaft and handle. Let's take a look.

Handling

The TTY handles about the same as its predecessor, the TKFC, and mostly similar to other 4u Thrusters. It is reasonably light but head heavy. You will notice it's head-weight when manoeuvring, but it is by no means sluggish. Net play, defence and positioning are easy enough if you have enough strength.

Shock absorption is excellent even on big hits. Very easy on the forearm.

Similar to the TKFC, it does tax the shoulder! However, due to improvements in the shaft, the frame feels more 'unibody' and less like a morning-star/flail. It proves more responsive and immediate than the TKFC, with enhanced feedback due to utilising the newer version of FreeCore handle.

Control

TTY offers a superb level of control and precision. The birdie goes where you want it to. Sharp angles are easy. The frame is very stable. It has less shuttle hold than the TKFC, and shots feel more immediate and crisp. This racket is excellent for wizardry/witching both at the net and the back.

Power

The TTY offers much better power transmission than the TKFC. Big hits have more speed, weight and extension. I attribute this to the improvements made in the shaft and handle over its predecessor.

While it is not an absolute power monster like the ZSP88, etc, the TTY packs way more punch than the average racket without compromising much on playability. It plays at the back court very well.

Speed

The TTY offers average speed. Its compact head cancels out the high balance point. Swing speed is very much dependant on your technique and musculature. The box frame doesn't give any assistance to racket speed.

Overall

The TTY is an direct upgrade to the TKFC, offering a more crisp, powerful and immediate hitting experience. The upgraded shaft also means that it is not as beginner-friendly as the TKFC, and you need a fair bit of shoulder development to use it well. The TTY is probably my favourite Thruster at this time. It is a excellent singles stick, and can also be a great doubles stick for players with some strength and technique.

However, if you are a fan of the shuttlehold and big shaft flex of the TKFC, please note that the TTY does not produce the same effects.

Personally I have been using the TTY for XD and MS. IMO it works better with the Ryz65 string moreso than the Exb65.
