I play with my doubles partner and we're both similar level intermediate players. I am right handed while he is left handed. We get into trouble when our opponents lift directly to the middle in the space between us. Both of us tend to reach for the attacking shot and clash our rackets or worse, just leave the shuttle thinking the partner would take it. Any tips to avoid this confusion. Communication is key, I understand that but more often than not both of us already commit to the shot before we even communicate it.
If this is a regular partner you’ll be training and playing tournaments with, I recommend having a conversation about preferences before the next game.
For attacking, who’s got the better smash or consistent backcourt? Who’s quicker on the front for interceptions? That can be an indicator of the ideal attacking positions and will clear some confusion.
