Modmail Madness: February 2022 Edition!
Post Body

Howdy r/badhistory! We're somehow already through two months of 2022, which means it's time for another Modmail Madness. Every time the sub is mentioned, we get a notification, and compile the best (and worst) here.

According to this user, because the USSR declared war on Nazi Germany before the USA did, Democrats prefer to ally with Nazis instead of Communists. Bonus points for absolutely failing to mention the invasion of the USSR as a contributing factor.

Twitter isn't free from bad historical takes, as demonstrated by this tweet about how China has never invaded any country ever, but the USA has invaded almost all of them. I can't tell if it's pro-China or anti-USA, but it's r/badhistory all around.

Operation Sea Lion was totally possible. Source: losing in Hearts of Iron 4 by focusing on bombing the UK.

Here's yet another version of Christianity being invented to consolidate the Roman Empire under one religion. The only problem is Christianity existed for, oh, 300 years or so at least first.

This one isn't so much a bad historical take as an interesting thread on military fiction, with a special reminder about how bad Max Brooks is at writing military actions.

Mother Theresa reclaimed the most mentioned thread on the sub, with 8 mentions across Reddit this month. Gone are the days of winning in a landslide though; the recent post on Nazis and socialism was a close second with 6 mentions. Finally, the word about Mark Felton's plagiarizing ways continues to spread, with 5 mentions across Reddit. Altogether, 30 threads were linked to across 54 unique conversations.

Remember, if there's something you want us to see, send us a link in modmail or mention the sub in the comments. That's all for February, so we'll see you again at the end of March!
