Hi, badhistorians, mods here.
We have been noticing an increase of cross-brigading between our sub and the subreddits/websites/etc that get featured here. Additionally, we noticed that posts and/or stories end up getting edited, deleted, or otherwise modified. Both of these situations are unacceptable to us, but especially the brigading.
The subreddit does have an existing rule that forbids users from featuring very recent bad history on our subreddit, in order to reduce the dog-piling effect. However, recent events have made the mod team consider taking even further measures to prevent people from using this subreddit as your personal army (and vice versa), as we'd rather not be a literal battleground on the day-to-day.
As such, we will be modifying Rule 1 as follows:
Rule 1: No voting or commenting in linked threads. Brigading may result in bans, locks and deletions of linked threads. /r/badhistory is not your personal army, so don't come running for reinforcements when in a discussion on reddit.
To help prevent brigading, you may not directly link to the bad history in question in submissions or comments. The featured bad history in your submission or comment must be shared via the following ways:
- a full quote of the bad history, and
- either screenshots of the bad history or archive links of the bad history (e.g. archive.is or the Wayback Machine)
YouTube videos or similar video content are exempt from the above rule, but we really like it when you provide timestamps. Posts and comments that do not follow this rule will be flagged and removed until they are fixed.
Good history sources (e.g. AskHistorians answers) may still be linked directly. However, if the good history source is found on Reddit, and the post or comment hasn't been archived yet (i.e. is less than 6 months old), you must use the 'np.reddit.com' format.
Do not /u/-summon Reddit users, unless you're using it to summon experts or moderators. Do not /r/-mention subreddits, as this will likely ping the moderators of that sub, and lead to dog-piling.
We would also like to remind users to not brigade other subreddits featured here, or encourage members of other subreddits to brigade us. Anyone encouraging a brigade, anyone who participates in a brigade, and anyone who comes in here looking for a personal army, risk subreddit bans.
If you see a brigade happening, please message us via modmail, or use the report function. We don't see everything, so this helps us out a lot.
Thank you, and may you have a blessed Volcanic day.
