We've been getting queries about whether this subreddit plans to go private in solidarity with other subreddits like /r/IAmA, /r/science, /r/history, and others in protest of lack of administration support for moderators.

The reasons why this mass protest is happening and the backstory behind all of it is too complicated to discuss here, so I am not planning to go over it. However, for the purposes of clarity (and to make our stance official on the matter so that people don't have to message us), /r/badhistory will not be going private.

The main reason why this is the case is because our subreddit mainly caters to a niche group of people, and is not as "important" or "heavy" as the defaults, for example. As such, we do not feel the need to turn this subreddit private. Many of the moderators (if not all) are in support of the protest (and some of us moderate subreddits that are taking part in said protest), but it is in this subreddit's best interests that we do not go private.
