Reddit, in its quest to protect its free speech, has turned into a haven for Nazis and holocaust deniers(oops I repeated myself). Case in point: this fellow.
There is hardly anyone who says it didn't happen.
I fear that any discussion of this will violate Rule 2, so I'm not going into it.
What people have argued is that the numbers were inflated
I'm pretty sure he's referring to the 6 million figure(i.e. the total number of deaths), even though major and trustworthy information sources such as Wikipedia state the same:
The Holocaust was a genocide in which approximately six million Jews were killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. An additional five million non-Jewish victims of Nazi mass murders are included by some historians bringing the total to approximately eleven million.
Moving on with the rant:
For example, one valid question to ask is how the Nazis could have incinerated so many people when incineration is extremely energy intensive and they were already facing resource shortages from the blockade. Incineration on a mass scale is unheard of because of how much energy and resources it would require to carry it out.
Fear not, brave neo-Nazi holocaust denier, these guys have the answers to your question:
Crematorium I operated [at Auschwitz] from August 15, 1940 until July 1943. According to calculations by the German authorities, 340 corpses could be burned every 24 hours after the installation of the three furnaces.
Yep, that definitely sounds like "Incineration on a mass scale" to me.
Back to the holocaust denier:
Even with all the modern technology we have, we cannot afford to incinerate people on a that scale.
Again, rule 2 prohibits me from discussing anything about this, and the rest of the comment is nothing but this brave soul whining complaining about his precious freeze peaches.
Apologies for the low effort. I hadn't much time to go into detail.
Credit to /u/Spam4119 for pointing out this badhistory on SRS.
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to add some more stuff, regarding the cremation part:
In Auschwitz the authorities were not burdened by respect for the dead or any need to consider civilian rules or laws regarding cremation.
Multiple bodies were cremated together. The muffles (the actual openings in the oven; there were 52 in total in Auschwitz) were filled with as many bodies as could be fit into them.
The men who worked in the Sonderkommandos quickly learned how to combine the bodies of fat people, skeletal 'Muselmänner' and children to achieve maximum results (that is, more bodies could be burned in less time).
Once the first bodies started to burn they just kept putting more bodies in to keep the fires hot. The result was continuous operation at very high efficiency in which very little fuel was needed to keep the process going for hours or days.
Yeah, so not many resources were involved. Also, not all the bodies involved were cremated.
