In a recent game, Italy/Austria became very powerful when the Northern triangle suffered from an early stab in which England stabbed me (Germany) for three centers. He did so too early, however, and lost ground when France, Russia, and I worked to thwart him.

Then, to counterbalance Italy/Austria, I suggested to all the other 5 powers that, if we worked together, we could beat them. We came up with a plan that would have regained Russia's losses, held everywhere else. Russia failed to put in orders due to being out hiking and not near cell towers.

With our losses, our next plan was to hold Mao, Denmark, and StP to stalemate. Russia continued to fail to put in orders which threatened StP. Then, as shown in these images, Russia does something truly astounding and has the gall to suggest that we shouldn't win because Austria/Italy have worked better as a team (our team worked fine...except for Russia).
