Throbbing back pain

When im laying down if I'm fully relaxed it's a throbbing severe pain. Almost feels like someone is pulling the spine apart. If I tense up my back laying down or stand it alleviates the pain. This has been going on for years. Raising knees or legs doesn't help at all when laying on my back. After about 10 minutes it'll ease up but if I stand up and move at all and lay back down the process repeats.
