Will be in NZ for 6 months. I'm freaking out!

I'm a Malaysian and I'll be in Wellington, New Zealand in December under the working holiday scheme. Now, I got my flight ticket settled, but I got nowhere to stay and no jobs line up. I'm a newbie in solo-backpacking, so I don't know what to do and what to expect. I'm starting to freak out because it's about a month and a half away, and I still figuring stuff out!
Anyone has any tips on housing and finding temporary jobs?
