Hi, I feel like my axolotls gills used to be fluffier. And it’s weird because since then I’ve added more a bubble wall and a bigger sponge filter. His water parameters have been consistently within normal ranges and his temperature has actually been getting colder, but it’s still around 62 on a good day.

Was he just smaller so his gills looked bigger and now that he’s getting fat and chunky they look smaller or what’s going on?

Any advice?? Anything I can change?
