Do I need a public S3?

Post Body

As the title says do I need a public S3 for storing json data from an app? I am building an Android app that will take data from a user and will need to send it to an S3 bucket. From there I will gather all the data from the S3 bucket to do analysis on it. I would like to do this as secure as possible. Any thought?
