Recently my brand has been growing and I moved the brand static website from Google Sites (free) to Wordpress (I also created a blog), as it happens with Wordpress I quickly outgrew the free option and ended up upgrading (twice) for a better plan. And today I found out that I could have created my static site and blog (even with Wordpress installed) with the AWS free tier. Even if S3 is not free forever, I ran quick calculations and it would have been much cheaper given how small and how little traffic my site has (500 daily users at peak). Obviously the setup would have been much more cumbersome for an AWS newbie like me, but I still feel 400USD poorer and dumber. Why aren’t more people using AWS free tier for static websites? Or is it very popular and I was just unaware?
EDIT: after reading the comments on how difficult and how much overhead an AWS infrastructure would impose for managing it and security (WAF); I gained a lot of perspective and now it seems I made the right choice, wouldn’t want to spend hours managing the AWS account to be honest. Thanks everyone.
