Lately I've changed job and in my new company we use Zoom. Now I'm experiencing some crashes. During a zoom call suddenly all the buttons and keybinding stop to work. I can't change tags, all the widget are frozen except thy system try applets I can keep talking and using zoom but all the buttons/widgets are frozen.
It happens only during a Zoom call (it doesn't matter if I'm sharing the screen or just watching), and not always, I can spend a day using Zoom and no problem at all, and it can happens 2-3 times in 10 minutes, but always when I'm using Zoom.
When it happens I can switch to /dev/tty
and from there I can see that awesome is using 30-50% of the CPU (and it is a lot considering that I have a i7-9750H).
I've tried to kill: Zoom, Picom, browsers and most of the daemons that are running on my laptop, but the situation doesn't change. When I switch back tho Xorg I still see the frozen image from zoom.
I've tried to restart awesome using the command:
echo 'awesome.restart()' | awesome-client
but I get a response from dbus that says that it can't communicate with awesome.
Now if I try to kill awesome with killall awesome
or kill awesome
nothing happens, the only thing that works is: kill -9 awesome
but the system returns to lxdm.
I'm not totally sure that Zoom is the culprit, but I don't know what else could it be. Some time ago I had a "similar" problem with bspwm and Picom, every now and then the screen was freezing but everything was going back to the normality once I kill Picom, but now killing Picom doesn't solve the problem.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance. H2K
SOLUTION / Workaround:
Use the Zoom appImage instead of the aur package.
