Seeking Advice: Best Star Alliance Member for Frequent Traveler Between North America and Europe with Amex MR Points
Post Body

TL;DR: Two questions need to be answered:

  1. Which Star Alliance member should I call my home base?
  2. In the context of collecting Amex MR points, should I prioritize having transfer relations to this member or use these points to redeem elsewhere?

I need to figure out which one Star Alliance member I should choose and stick with, because I don't think I travel enough to make value of having two or more.

I travel between North America and the Atlantic the most often, as well as within those continents. I book the cheapest flights, no economy plus or anything like that, and I intend to continue doing so unless someone pays for business class or I reach a net worth of $5M.

The airlines I tend to fly are a mix of non-Star and Star Alliances, such as Qatar, AirFrance/Delta, Turkish Airlines, and Lufthansa.

I used to be with Aeroplan Air Canada as I'm Canadian, but I no longer live there and visit Canada maybe once or twice a year. So, I started to look elsewhere because from my understanding, AC is not favorable towards booking non-AC flights. My research led me to cross out Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines (heard that it used to be good but now it's only good for Hawaii), LOT, and Aegean.

United is not the best either from my understanding, and it always seems like the places I visit Delta offers at a similar price point, which I prefer over United. Avianca LifeMiles stands out as a viable option, but it's an airline I don't intend to fly in the near future or ever, and I have limited experience outside of Aeroplan redeeming these award flights.

For context, I have ~200k MR on my Amex Plat, and I use Chase SR but I use it to redeem from Chase Travel rather than transfer. I also collect Delta miles, but not actively.

Any advice would be appreciated!
