Just wanted to state some of my opinions I shared on twitter. I think we are a WAYS away and I love how Reddit is taking a very organic approach, but these are some things I think could happen within the next year or two.
Community Points (already released of course):
- Allow communities themselves create their own digital collectibles that the community can purchase to REPRESENT the brand. Imagine you own a subreddit called âNFTâ, and imagine you can create avatars and sell it for your community points that are earned by being active. This basically helps reddit out, but also the community by implementing micro-ecosystems without taking value away from Redditâs main ecosystem.
This allows communities to get their brand out their in other subreddits, without being cringe.
Karma Integration:
- I expect them to integrate Karma or a global currency of some type to buy certain accessories. This makes it to where yes; people feel rewarded that they can earn stuff without having to pay, so they wonât hate the concept of NFTs as much
- This helps Reddit because now people are getting a reward, for being active â aka more ad revenue for Reddit and more user base. Also this would be the biggest move a social media has ever done, because Karma and Awards is what makes reddit more fun than others (they have a lot more features) but this is very different from any social platform. They are set to create an ecosystem revolved around creators and people that participate to completely disrupt the creatorâs economy.
Big Big Partnerships:
- Allow partnerships with big entities brand their stuff on avatars; this means more revenue for Reddit, the company and more budget and reason to keep pushing digital avatars as adoption. Also with this, this adds MASSIVE news to Digital collectibles. Imagine seeing something Like Nike x Reddit Digital Collectibles. This would cause an intense amount of volume to pour in.
More Reddit Avatar Integration:
- I expect them to make tools partner up with other platforms to use these avatars internally maybe within a gaming world or some other type of platform. I can see this being a big move.
- I do see them making more community based tools kindaâv how Opensea is starting to do to push adoption
Bigger Artists Creating:
- I love one thing about Reddit and itâs the first TRULY working launchpad for artists. They incubate and centralized what avatars get created (as of right now) and I like that. No scummy people, no scams. So I expect bigger artists to collaborate⌠and potentially integration of âmusicâ ? Wouldnât this be MASSIVE. Imagine clicking on an avatar and hearing an artist like Drake (or whoever you like). This would be a win/win for both.
A lot more I donât want to share.
But I think a lot of these things are cool, and solid strategic moves. But I definitely appreciate that Reddit puts their community first and is doing thing so well from onboarding to rewarding active Reddit users to having tons of features that allows so much functionality.
curious on your thoughts, let me know below - what do you think could happen? im a dreamer, i can't help it sorry hahaaha
