Jerking while Accelerating and bubbling coming from engine

I drive a 1.8L 2001 Lancer GLXi. I noticed while driving home today that the car jerked with rpm drops and seemed to be losing power (the dashboard lights were flickering with rpm drops). After driving for a bit I noticed bubbling coming from the engine (sounded like head gasket problems but not sure). As well as low acceleration with aggressive rpm. Idle was semi rough while sitting at lights too. Car had no symptoms until today but is due for a service.

I was just wondering where I should start looking at either the spark plugs or head gasket, this problem is a bit out of my ballpark.
