Hello everyone, Iâve understood that the NHSâ NICE guidelines do not recommend antidepressants to treat the core features of autism. Does anyone know why this is? I know there is research to show we are more sensitive to drugs and drugs havenât been tested on our bodies, but the NHS guidelines doesnât give any more information.
Iâm not sure if Iâd take anti depressants as I have heard some pretty nasty side effects, and I am mega sensitive to drugs. I just thought it was interesting that the NHS doesnât recommend it yet I have heard so many autistic people are on anti depressants?
Edit: thank you for the replies! I think I misunderstood some of the NICE guidelines in that they are saying they shouldnât be prescribed to autistic people at all and I was confused why so many of us are on them (Iâd missed that they mean to âtreatâ autism specifically).
