Ok, so today a friend of mine phoned me up saying he found out that something he was working on has already been commissioned by someone else (he's a writer) so shitty all round, he phones me up ranting about the situation and i don't get a word in. This is the second time he has done this. Earlier today i said to him that he needs to bear in mind that i have a mental impairment which affects my communication skills and my emotional responses to situations.
I said to him, while it is right he should expect support from his friends it is NOT right to phone up and rant and rave to someone who has limited comms as it is and then get all annoyed when I say something he doesn't like, it's a classic "doesn't compute" scenario on my part. Yes, i do try and be more empathic and supporting of my friends, but sometimes i wish people would remember that my comms skills are VERY different to that of the average person and my friend would do well to remember that next time he phones me when some crisis happens in his life, i won't be able to provide the emotional support he is expecting.
I said all of this to him, was i wrong to put my foot down on this issue? I feel pretty bad saying that to him.
