This isn't really related to ASD but I'm always an advocate for people with disabilities and as a person with a chronic illness I'm slowly becoming more and more reliant on accessibility products.
An example of this is like when I'm having a flare up in my muscles and my tendons are bothering me I use talk to text to type everything and it saves me a lot of hassle, and the dictation on my Galaxy is actually really good. It never really messes up and I never really have to repeat myself. Like right now, I'm using it to type this whole entire thing.
Another example of an accessibility product that I'm trying to get my hands on but it's just really expensive would be the roomba, I know a lot of people see the roomba as just as cool hip vacuum but when you don't have the physical energy to push your vacuum around a big house or a big apartment something like a roomba can really save you a lot of energy and potentially save you from passing out.
Other examples of accessibility products I'm trying to slowly convert to include electric canopeners, chopping devices so that way it's easier to cut vegetables, And I would really like to get one of those handles that you can attach to your car so that it's easier to get in-and-out because unfortunately I'm somebody who struggles to get in-and-out of the car and I usually fall down on the seat pretty hard.
But yeah I was just sharing this because I don't know I think a lot of people like I said use accessibility products that are seen as being cool and hip and they don't really think about the people who actually need them or who use them on a daily basis, it's not necessarily just for able bodied individuals so that way they can take a picture and put it on Instagram or make a TikTok of their cool new device when people who are unfortunately unable to do those tasks need those products as well and that representation is not really shown.
