Should stimming be avoided even in private?

Post Body

Hello autism community,

I’m a 30 year old autistic male who was diagnosed at a young age and experienced many, many years of sociol-emotional learning, language therapy, special education, etc.

I no longer stim in public but I have the urge to do so in private. It’s (shocker lol) very soothing for me.

My question is- is it a bad idea to stim even in private? Does it function sort of like cursing like a sailor in that if you curse a lot with your friends you might slip up in public?

Thank you for your time

Also- apologies if this has been asked many times. I’ve used the search bar but didn’t see any results in the first ten or so. If it’s common I’ll delete and look again.

EDIT: It has come to my attention that this post has a negative feel to it. I do not think there is anything wrong with stimming. I am asking if stimming in private increases the chances of stimming in public. I ask this because stimming - and other various autistic tendencies - have been getting in the way of making a living.
