I’m very nervous to post this because I’m not diagnosed with autism. I am diagnosed ADHD and highly suspect I am autistic- my uncle received an official diagnosis recently in his 40’s and I’m pretty confident the whole lot of us are undiagnosed, untreated neurodivergents.
I’ve been reading the book Unmasking Autism and have been learning a lot from neurodivergent content creators. As I learn more about myself and certain qualities that are because of my neurodivergence, I talk with my mom about what I learn (she’s my only friend tbh). But her response is ALWAYS along the lines of “I think everybody deals with/experiences that.”
I think we all know that isn’t the case… I don’t know what to say to her in those moments. To be honest, I usually just tell her sarcastically that our whole family is full of undiagnosed autistics.
Have any of you experienced similar? How does it make you feel? How do you respond to these kinds of statements?
