I think I may have Autism, and a diagnosis would be helpful in explaining “me” and my behaviors, but I’m scared to be told “nope, you’re normal but just weird”

Post Body
In recent years (I’m a young adult), I’ve come to the realization that I am probably autistic. My girlfriend has a little sister who has non-verbal autism, so the fact that she comes from an environment where autism isn’t “bad” or “taboo” got us thinking about some of the behaviors that I do and have done my whole life.
For me, an autism diagnosis would make so much sense, as it would explain everything I’ve had trouble explaining about myself.
I’m just scared that because I’m not like someone who is “stereotypically” autistic, I won’t be taken seriously if I were to get a diagnosis or ask questions about autism.
Anyone else feel this way or have worked through this situation? Any advice or words of wisdom/kindness?
