Online and in media we see constant representation of autistic people who hate hugs. That's good, some of us hate hugs, but I noticed nearly every article and media representation of us is about us hating hugs. Looking up autism and hugs in Google gets you mostly articles on how to show love without hugging your autistic child, or articles on why autistic kids hate hugs, and while that's great, it takes a lot of scrolling before you get articles mentioning autistic kids who LOVE hugs. It actually sort of feels invalidating because of this.
I feel like so many neurotypical people don't know that we can be UNDERstimulated as well as overstimulatied. What overstimulates one autistic kid is probably understimulsting to another, in all ways both physically and emotionally.
Anyways, what are your thoughts on this?
