ND Mom to an ADHD/Autistic 13 year old son. He has been complaining about not liking his medicine for a while. He takes 20 mg Adderall once a day, when he takes his meds he is able to complete tasks and has a much better day. Recently he started outright refusing to take them. This week I made him take it but I felt guilty like I was taking his choice away. If he doesnt take his meds he has a difficult time completing simple tasks such as his chores not to mention getting any schooling(homeschool) done is a nightmare. He says that he doesnt like how they make him feel that it slows him down. How can I help him understand that the medicine does help and he needs it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We already tried different meds when he was younger so med change may not work.
UPDATE: I did what alot of you sugested and lowered his dose. He still gets a little distracted but is able to function. He feels better with this dose. The only issue we are having is the new dose is a non coated tablet and he cant stand it touching his tongue. Thank you for all the suggestions and comments.
