My favorite is El Amigo the taco truck on spicewood springs off of 183. I’m looking for more places tho! Not the ones you see on like “where to visit in austin” lists! :-)
Maudie's was my go-to spot with my grandparents a decade ago, I stopped going there once I got a splinter in my fingernail bed from pulling out one of their wooden chairs to sit down, it hadn't been sanded properly. That has no bearing on their food, but at the same time I was a stupid young adult who didn't understand food while eating with two old people who's taste buds stopped working in the early 2000's.
Takeaway: Maudie's is the equivalent of a modern day Chuy's, you invite your in-laws to eat there, everyone has a decent meal, and nobody shits their pants on the way home. Is it GOOD food? Not in the slightest. Is it a great place for people who want tex-mex in the same style every time? Yes!!
Las Palomas, the best Mexican restaurant you could ever go to. Off Bee caves in Westlake, this place is tucked away in a corner of a shopping center, having been there for 30 years, making the best food known to man. Every time I am within a 30 mile vicinity of that restaurant I make it A NECESSITY to grab a bowl of Caldo Tlapeño soup, the best item on their menu. On weekends they will have a live jazz/samba band.
Also, they have the best tortilla chips, the kind that are crunchy and full of air pockets and the roja salsa makes me salivate just thinking about it
