Good evening everyone,
I (31M) am a Registered Nurse who has finally come to the realisation (after a lot of denial) that I may want a career change out of nursing. I am aware there are many specialties and higher earning potential if I study and upskill but the fact is I simply no longer have any interest in nursing or healthcare in general and the money for the work I do is simply not worth it anymore especially in NSW. On top of that I have two degrees (Nursing and Criminology) and I no longer have any energy or desire to go back to university.
I occasionally hear of nurse who have gone into the corporate world and made it into medical sales or health informatics where the pay and conditions are apparently much better without having to do any shift work.
I wanted to know what the jobs are like, work life balance and what the overall quality of life is like. I wouldn't say I completely hate nursing but its tiring and the pay for the work we do (in NSW especially) doesn't seem worth it especially knowing that someone out there has a desk job earning way more than me without having to sacrifice their weekends, public holidays or sleep schedule. I know its not all sun shine and rainbows in the corporate world either but all the complaints here sound like a god send compared to what I'm used to.
However I've never been in the corporate world so I just wanted a realistic reality check.
So if you are a nurse or know of a nurse who has moved into the corporate world I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thank you for your time and have a nice evening.
