Best project mtb?

Post Body
Currently doing a bike mechanic course and thinking of picking up a mtb as a project bike.
My criteria:
- Ideally a bike parts budget of $1000
- 27.5", I dislike 29"
- Semi-modern parts. I've done up a 1990s mtb in the past.
- I'd probably prefer an enduro/cx style than downhill.
- Full-sus curious, but doubt .you budget suits.
Was looking at the Marin Bobcat series, but not sure if they're garbage ($900 new).
Any reccos on what might be worth looking out for?
