'Turning off' at night

Post Body

Id love to know what people do to switch off at night. My mind is generally racing, and alcohol is effective to help me turn off my brain (a glass or two) but I'd love to stop feeling like I'm relying on it. I don't want anything that will put me to sleep, I value my end of night reading, or hanging with my partner, so want to be awake, just not with a busy brain.

Does anyone have any go tos?

Take it from someone who is in rehab for alcohol, you do not need/want to rely on alcohol for anything. It will affect the quality of your sleep severely for starters. You’ll get poor quality sleep, it’ll increase cortisol levels and you’ll quickly become dependent on it. It’s not a viable solution. Make sure you’re not taking your meds too late in the day. Try journaling. Try meditating. Try getting off your phone and computer and reading a book. It’s all about having a healthy bedtime wind-down routine.

Glad you got out of the cycle. I don’t like to preach about alcohol but I personally can’t touch it ever again. Addiction crept up on me. It’s very normalised in Australian society which makes it difficult for people who don’t drink. But to hell with drinking culture, my life is soo much better and I’m at peace finally. Take care.
