I'm a musicologist and historian currently researching Aurora's music and activism. Ask Me Anything!
Post Body

Hello fellow warriors and weirdos!

My name is Morgan, and I'm one of the mods over at r/AskHistorians. I'm an historical musicologist from Argentina, and I happen to be a huge fan. Aurora is without a doubt one of my favorite young artists, and I'm constantly inspired by her eclecticism and her political motivations. So much so, that I'm currently in the process of writing a university lecture on political activism in contemporary music, using her music as the connecting thread, comparing her politically motivated themes such as LGBTQIA rights, environmentalism and mental health awareness, to that of other artists, young and old, living or dead, from different parts of the world. As such, I've analyzed her music and poetry extensively and have collected a multitude of research oriented thoughts on the musical, lyrical, thematic and symbolic components in her songs and albums, including The Gods We Can Touch.

I enjoy this lovely community very much, and after seeing an uptake in threads involving analyses and discussions about TGWCT, I decided to contact the moderators and offer to do an AMA regarding my insights on her art and her political activism, and what it can mean for an entire generation of listeners and new artists moving forward. Based on the slow but significant progress other artists have achieved in the previous century, I'm of the opinion that Aurora's career can very well set a trend for young artists to shift the focus of the music scene, from a typically misogynistic and overly capitalistic industry, into an inclusive, diverse, sustainable and eco-friendly space.

So without further ado, if you'd like to learn more about the musical differences between her albums, or about the tango influences in Artemis, or about the presence of Indian improvisation and vocalization styles in Steps 1 and 2, Ask Me Anything!

Edit: It's getting late here in Argentina, so I'm gonna call it a day, but if anyone has any more questions I'll be happy to answer some more in the coming days. It's been an absolute blast, thank you to everyone who asked questions and shared their thoughts with me today. Maybe we can do this again when she releases a new album! Keep on being beautiful, keep on being warriors 💜
