The goal is to rebuild the unit as it was intended to be built, but with modern components. This is of course very difficult and time consuming, because you are never going to find a perfect replacement for a carbon comp resistor with a 20% drift. The trick is to take the intent of the designer and replace only what is needed with what is reliable and reproduces the original sound.
Putting in a bunch of expensive 'boutique' components into a 70s amp and not even bothering to replace the AC line caps with XY safety caps is hacky and doing more harm than good.
I apologize for the giant size of this album and also that imgur can no longer decide how to order files uploaded. The notes are necessary but only if you are looking to rebuild this specific unit. I spent a year on this project and I will say without any humility that it far exceeded any expectations for any party involved.
