Compression and mixing on current Rock albums

Post Body

Just wanted to see if others felt the same way I do. And if you don’t , that’s cool too!

Went back and listened this morning to Foo Fighters’ But Here We Are on vinyl. It’s an album that I really want to like but, for me anyway, it’s almost unbearable to listen to because it sounds like the band is in a box. And it’s not my system. The band just sounds like this mush of sound and I’m amazed when one instrument actually pushes out from the rest. I can’t even tell at times there’s a bass player and I have a sub. Made me put on The Stones new album and make sure I was right about that one too . It’s not as bad as the Foo’s record, but at times I know there are horns behind the Stones but they are mixed out almost and the compression again gets in the way. I don’t get why some albums are produced with so much compression these days. It ruins them.
