So after my new monitor horrified me with how terrible the sound quality is (zero bass and sounds like flea market headphones from the 80s....awful just utterly awful even windows own sounds are....vile) I went browsing eBay and scored the following 2 receivers (downstairs could do with something better) Onkyo TX-SR506 - £32 plus £5 shipping Onkyo TX-SR507 - £27 plus £14 shipping - apparently volume knob can fail to work intermittently, which makes me think an issue with the potentiometer ( ? Or am I barking up the wrong tree)
Can anyone tell me what the difference in sound profile is like between these 2 please? Do you need to run the onboard test with a calibrated mic (if so best place to get one?)
Downstairs receiver will handle Blu-ray, Wii and xbox360 console duties, speakers it will be feeding will be a pair of Sony SS-A609s I got free some years back along with the rest of its parts (receiver is a Sony TA-D609), radio tuner never worked so it was junked in favour of internet radio, cd player worked when it felt like it (guessing nicotine on the cd player lens) and as far as I know the tape deck still works but I've never had any cause to use it.
Upstairs is a bit more basic - a pair of Aiwa SX-N707, Which to my ears don't have the same depth of sound to them as the Sony's do (then again the Sony's are floorstanding 120watt speakers and the aiwa are 70w bookshelf speakers) however they will be a massive upgrade to the monitor sound.
Plan is to use optical out from the pc to the receiver then use 2 x 14gauge speaker cables to connect the speakers on wall brackets.
Is it possible to wall mount the receiver also (limited desk space due to 2 27" monitors side by side) ?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated 👍👍 Hopefully both receivers should be here in the next couple of days, both have a no quibble refund if anything isn't as described with return shipping paid Thanks 👍
