Severe to Profound one ear
Post Body

I am writing to see what you guys think about this situation. I am looking for advice or 2nd opinion without jumping all over the place.

First, I have Starkey hearing aids (doesn’t seem the best bc of several problems I have discovered). I was fitted in Dec 2018 by a hearing aid tech. Before fitted, I went 16 years without treatment bc of raising my children that have high voices.

I went to a place in Massachusetts after I moved from Texas to be close to my son in college in Vermont. This place has an audiologist that tested me with earphones not inserts. Then sat me down to discuss a treatment plan you pay monthly that covers everything plus a top of the line hearing aids (Oticon) I wasn’t expected to get new hearing aids right away (felt like the person is a salesperson). I was trying to get answers about fluctuating hearing loss, auditory processing disorder, sensitivity to loud sounds but felt like I didnt get a good answer. A hearing aid isnt correcting my processing disorder because it is beyond the ear. She had me try Oticon S and I love the way it sounds and fell in love with music. But her telling me that my bad ear (severe to profound), “damaged” as she put it, tells me I don’t have a chance of understanding speech. I asked about the frequency shifting hearing aid but she didn’t seem to offer or give me details. My profound in the highs is 110 at 2000 and 100 past 2000. My best low is 65 to 80 decibels loss.

Is this ear hopeless or there is a chance? I like binaural hearing.

Maybe I should see a Doctor thats not just an audiologist?

Thanks, Amy
