I’ve run into this type of response a lot. My coworkers tease me, my friends kinda do a double take when I say audiobook (yet they listen to podcasts so what’s so shocking?). Has anyone else come across this type of response when discussing audiobooks in general, or mentioning that you “listened” to the book when discussing books? Now I for one don’t care who thinks I’m a nerd or what other people’s reactions are but for the sake of not having to explain myself I just say I “read” the book when the topic comes up. I just don’t feel like explaining myself or audiobooks.

So anyone else out there with this issue? How do you respond and what kinds of reactions do you get? I honestly don’t get why people have this reaction to audiobooks and I never really get a straight answer when I ask someone what is so weird about it? Do you also ever just give up and tell someone you “read” the book to get them to shut up?
