Why do people think audiobooks are dorky?
Post Body

Iā€™ve run into this type of response a lot. My coworkers tease me, my friends kinda do a double take when I say audiobook (yet they listen to podcasts so whatā€™s so shocking?). Has anyone else come across this type of response when discussing audiobooks in general, or mentioning that you ā€œlistenedā€ to the book when discussing books? Now I for one donā€™t care who thinks Iā€™m a nerd or what other peopleā€™s reactions are but for the sake of not having to explain myself I just say I ā€œreadā€ the book when the topic comes up. I just donā€™t feel like explaining myself or audiobooks.

So anyone else out there with this issue? How do you respond and what kinds of reactions do you get? I honestly donā€™t get why people have this reaction to audiobooks and I never really get a straight answer when I ask someone what is so weird about it? Do you also ever just give up and tell someone you ā€œreadā€ the book to get them to shut up?
