Fed up with the Audible app, getting ready to delete it. This summer the Audible app's performance has tanked and I'm not sure if it's a compatibility issue (iPhone 7, iOS13.7) or something different. I've been a monthly subscriber since 2011, and I'm just about ready to stop the service b/c this isn't giving me my money's worth right now.
List of complaints:
- Turning on randomly when I'm using the phone for other stuff. This happens most when I'm listening to Pandora, Audible will turn on and begin playing when I haven't touched the phone or asked it to do anything (I don't have push-to-talk or any other stuff like that enabled). Today, in the middle of a walk, while in my otherwise empty pocket, the app disconnected me from a call with my mom with no warning. This happened 3 times this morning, I hadn't used the app since yesterday!
- Skipping for no reason when I have headphones (wired/no Bluetooth connection) in. The skipping can occur when I just touch the phone to change the orientation (i.e., the phone is flat, I pick it up to check the time, and suddenly my book is between 30s to several chapters back). This also happens frequently when I'm just walking around my house with the phone in an empty pocket. The amount of time skipped seems to be random, is usually backwards, but sometimes forward.
- Sometimes playback just stops. Sometimes this happens when I close the home screen or change the phone's orientation, other times playback continues as it should when the screen is off/blank. Occasionally there's just a several second long gap in the playback where there isn't normally a gap in the audio performance.
- Poor syncing between the app and the web player. For the above reasons, I do most of my listening at my comp. When I stop listening via the web player, unless I'm at a pre-defined chapter break, there's only a 50/50 chance I'll pick up in the same spot when I start listening on my phone, even after asking the phone to refresh/sync within the app.
Are there viable solutions to any of these problems? I've done some searching, but most of the playback issues I've seen on the web relate to Bluetooth tech, which I'm not using.
