I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but there was a lot of nastiness on game day this weekend (LSU vs Auburn). Everywhere I went, I heard stuff like, "Fuckin' corndogs! Get your asses back to Louisiana!"
I understand a bit of mild trash-talking before a game, but people were just getting nasty. One, there are lots of families with young kids from both sides that come here. But more importantly to me is that we have a reputation to uphold.
I've had alumni and fans from all over the SEC tell me how Auburn is, by far, one of the best away games they go to. Yep, even Alabama fans. Our fans are polite no matter whose colors you're wearing and overall we're a class act. I noticed this too... well, until last Saturday.
Hell, even here on Reddit an LSU fan asked about the parking situation and you downvoted him to oblivion. Why? He's coming to give his money to YOUR town and YOUR football program. Welcome him with a smile! You don't have to cheer for his team, but you certainly shouldn't be telling him to get his ass back to Louisiana.
I'm kind of ashamed of the Auburn community right now. I hope that even with the nastiness our fans displayed at that game, we still uphold a reputation as being a great school to play against.
