Post Body

You picked your tiny dog up to let a cyclist pass you on a trail near Longview Park. After the cyclist passed, you put your dog down again, only to turn around and see me running from the opposite direction. Rather than pick up the dog again, you knelt down next to him/her.

I have replayed this next moment in my head dozens of times since this happened like an hour ago to make sure I'm not reading into this too much. You've got to understand that I look a certain way when I'm on even the lightest of jogs. It's not pretty. When I try and politely smile, I end up looking like this. I'm almost positive that's what I looked like as I said "excuse me" as I ran by.

You flashed me the prettiest, most genuine smile that made my heart skip a beat. That's not a figure of speech either - I literally felt my heart do a weird thing in my chest. If nothing else, you absolutely made my day.

Next time I see you I will almost certainly be running again. But I'm going to be ready to actually smile back.
