I really want to like this game, but just, no. I don't think I have anything to say about it that hasn't been said already, but for the sake of completeness:
- Unforgiveable stutter during combat. As bad as anything I've played, including Fallout 76.
- Terrible platforming. Note to any and all developers: DO NOT INCLUDE PLATFORMING IN A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. IT NEVER WORKS. EVER. NOT EVEN IN DOOM ETERNAL.
- Dumb fucking door puzzles. This is self explanatory. Throwing up hurdles to exploration that don't make sense in context and otherwise add nothing to the gameplay experience are a cardinal sin.
- The bizarre and pointless swearing. Look, I'm not a prude. But this is kind of OD. Every other word out of the guy's mouth is "fuck." It's like I'm watching the departed. If I felt like it was supposed to be funny that might be one thing, but it's almsot as if they think it makes him sound tough and badass, and it really really doesn't. To clarify, it is funny. Just not on purpose.
- The dialogue generally. It's constant, it's badly written, it adds nothing to the story or the gameplay, and the mixing is really terrible. You'll often have the glove, the character, and an NPC talking over each other, plus ambient noise. Figure out when enough is enough.
- Fetch quests. Fuck a fetch quest. Hard stop. And fuck a dev who thinks its funny to incldue self referential dialogue about how bad fetch quests are, while making you do another fetch quest.
- Poor gameplay pacing. Long stretches of unskippable cutscenes (those first 45 minutes, hoo boy) punctuated by sudden combat, followed by walking around some more, and then a perfunctory and anticlimactic boss fight.
- These open world segments have got to change. You can't explore because the enemies endlessly respawn, and you can't really fight because the fights never end. My recommendation? Make the pchela spawn dome thingies killable, or at least subejct to beign disabled without having to do some dumb hawk relay tower sub-misison. I don't care if some other, bigger pchela spawns to repair the dome, just give me 10 or 15 minutes to explore the admittedly beautiful and interesting settings you've created.
- Related, vehicle controls are a mess. Visibility and handling are terrible, and it's literally less safe then getting out and walking.
- Melee combat could be better. Make it faster and more impactful. And for gods sakes, give me a quick melee please.
UI problems including -- zero contextual explanations or tooltips (it took me an hour to find out how to use cartridges, for example) -- the worst and most pointless map since I played Descent in the 7th grade -- chirper notifications that simply do not go away until you start and then stop them -- awkward weapon switching (have you ever tried pressing while using the LS and RS on an xbox controller??)
Inability to view, let alone customize, your control scheme
Needing to use the same resources to craft ammo and upgrade weapons
I don't hate the horny refrigerator, but I do wonder why they made that particular design choice.
So yeah overall this game has a ton of problems that make it a no go for me. I put about 15 hours into it and it's all felt like a chore. The story isn't good enough to compel me to keep playing either, so I think pending some major overhauls this might be the end of the road for me here. Pity too because the game is gorgeous and the music is fucking fantastic. It just can't get out of its own way.
