Hi everyone! My name is Grant Shimer, and I just wanted to come on here and introduce myself.
About Me
I’m 19 years old and live in Alpharetta. I’m currently a student at Liberty University Online. Last year, I studied in person at Liberty University, where I swam competitively at a high level for the D1 team. Swimming has been a major part of my life, and being able to compete at this level was an incredible experience. However, I’ve recently transitioned to online studies to focus more on gaining real-world work experience.Outside of academics and swimming, I’m passionate about the outdoors—I love camping, hiking, and generally spending time in nature. I’ve also developed a strong entrepreneurial spirit over the years. I’ve owned and operated two fully functioning businesses and have competed in various school business competitions. In my sophomore year of high school, I wrote a business-growth plan that won first place at the regional, state, and national levels, and I even made it to the top five internationally! I love working and find it incredibly rewarding.
Experience
As I mentioned, I’ve had the opportunity to run two businesses. My first and most successful venture was NottingHillDesignsCo, which I started halfway through my freshman year of high school. It began with me making custom wooden necklaces using a laser machine. Over time, I developed the idea of creating 2-D wooden map cutouts of nearby lakes, complete with a bottom layer of blue representing the water. After numerous prototypes and a few failed attempts, I finalized a design that I began selling to family and eventually on an Etsy store. In the first year, sales exceeded $100,000! As the business grew, I launched a website and expanded my product line. Over the years, NottingHillDesignsCo generated over $500,000 in sales. Just recently, I sold the business to someone who I believe will continue to grow it further. Managing this business taught me invaluable lessons in customer relations, production management, and problem-solving, all of which I’m eager to bring to a larger company. My second business is a smaller venture that I run during the summer. I noticed that many neighbor's mailboxes were dirty, and few seemed to clean them—so I stepped in to fill that niche. I pitched the idea to neighborhoods in my area, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I used my skills in Excel and business knowledge to create a website and organize all the data when someone signed up. Though smaller in scale, this business has been a lot of fun to run and grow from scratch.
What I’m Looking For Right Now
I’m currently seeking a job opportunity where I can apply my skills and experience. My main expertise lies in working with Excel, where I’ve developed strong proficiency in managing data, organizing information, and creating detailed spreadsheets for my businesses. While I’d love to find a role that allows me to utilize and further develop these Excel skills, I’m open to any opportunity that allows me to learn and contribute. I’m eager to start working and would be grateful for any leads or advice. Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and I look forward to connecting with you all!
